Lincoln Road ShoppingLincoln Road is a long pedestrian street, perfect for people & architecture watching. You can make it a 2-hour walk or spend the whole day, swim in the morning, lunch at one of the sidewalk restaurants. Take in a movie or shop or visit one of the museums close by, then party the night away.If you want a quiet breakfast,
go at 11AM. The place does not really get busy until early afternoon.
It is wonderful to walk Lincoln Road at Dusk. You are sure to find your
favorite specialty shop. There are art galleries, clothing stores, etc. A real fun and interesting afternoon or evening can be spend on famous Lincoln Road. This pedestrian street was converted into a vibrant promenade and fully restored to the Art Deco splendor of the past and the Miami Modern style, characteristic of the fifties. It is full of people at all times of day and night. Bus or drive to the South Beach area of Miami Beach( see maps provided in the arched phone cubicle in the condo). A good place to park is the municipal parking ramp by the Convention Center( on 17th bet. Meridian and Euclid). Start anywhere you choose:Notice the angles, the 50's style modernism in buildings : sweeping curves, old cheese holes, curved walls, fountains, ocean liner and maritime style buildings. I am sure you'll find a favorite and also hate a few! Morris Lapidus was the designer & architect of many of these buildings( also designed the Fountainblue and Eden Rock hotels on Millionaire's Row. His motto was " Too Much is Never Enough" Miami Beach in the 1950's and 60's defined swank. Walk up and down Lincoln Road, there is lots to see and do. My favorites are "Yuca"( new Cuban cuisine restaurant) building. The Albion Hotel. The old white Spanish church. Don't fail to have gelato at the Gelateria Parmalat. Books & Books is a Café-Bookstore. Balan's is a great place to eat ( expensive) and so is Chalan on the Beach-Peruvian restaurant ( inexpensive) at 1580 Washington Ave. off Lincoln Road |
